TGIF

Weeks are going by so quickly. I swear yesterday was Monday! And then, it's almost October, which means it's almost Thanksgiving, which means Christmas and 2009 are right around the corner. Unbelievable!

I'm excited for November. November = House

I'm excited it's Friday. That happens when you're a corporate Monday-Friday, 8-5er.
Friday = Sleep in, eat out, more time with Abe

oh brother!

A sign of the tough times. This is unreal!

Lehman bankruptcy: Lehman Brothers announced that it was filing for bankruptcy, ending a desperate three-day search for a buyer to save the investment bank. The filing came after Bank of America and Barclays pulled out of negotiations to acquire Lehman.

Lehman shares plunged 94%. Say What?

Lehman's Dying Hours

NEW YORK (Fortune) -- The last hours, minutes really, of one the world's largest investment banks make for a pretty unusual spectacle.

I'm standing outside Lehman Brothers (LEH, Fortune 500) headquarters on 7th Ave and 50th street in New York City, watching Lehman Brothers die.

Employees, some in suits, others in casual clothes, are filing out with all they can carry as time runs out.

They are walking down the sidewalk past police barricades as scores of New Yorkers and tourists gawk, some asking, "Which star is coming out?" - not knowing what's going on. A big cop issues the standard "keep moving" line to those of us who stop to gaze. He tells the crowd, "Go home. There is no one famous coming out. You are looking at a whole bunch of people who just lost their jobs."

Some of the people behind the barricades are loved ones - their faces distraught, their cars waiting to pick up their significant others and their boxes. One banker carries out a pair of green Lehman umbrellas, a paltry trophy.

Few parting employees are in a mood to talk - either they're still adhering to CEO Dick Fuld's tight-lipped, 'We're all in this together' policy or they're just exhausted and in major pain.
"No comment," is the standard line. A TV producer tries in vain to get interviews. I managed to ask one guy how he felt: "Look at all of us with boxes," he said with a grimace. "What do you think?"

As the night wears on, dozens of younger workers start coming out of the building. One yells, 'Jackals," not knowing that the crowd is made up mostly of relatives or clueless onlookers. A pair of employees walk out carrying orchids.

Six months earlier and five blocks away, a similar scene played out as Bear Stearns collapsed. Tonight I'm wondering how many more crash and burn nights like this Wall Street, the markets and our economy can take.

Dream House

The countdown is on!
In about 2 months Abe and I will be moving into our NEW HOUSE!

Kombucha

I love Kombucha. I have been drinking it for a while and for some reason, I just feel healthier after I drink it. However, it does have a peculiar taste. My local market, Grant's, had this hilarious warning posted.

Hot Hot Hot

Palm Springs (112 degrees)
Desert Riviera
September 5-7

Last weekend I went to Palm Springs with my mom and sister for more birthday celebrations. My mom and I share a birthday, August 27th. And my sisters birthday is coming up, September 12th. Happy Birthday Renee!

Saturday, we were at the pool by 9am. It was already 100+ degrees outside. Mom made breakfast. (champagne and berries :D ) It was a perfect day. I stayed under the umbrella, floated in the pool to cool off and finished my book, Save Karyn. We had a delicious dinner at The Falls. I highly recommend The Falls. They have a great prix fix menu, excellent service and it's on the main street.

We stayed at Desert Riviera. Desert Riviera is the number 1 rated hotel for Palm Springs on TripAdvisor.com. It is small and perfect. There are only 10 rooms, (we stayed in #10). It is super peaceful and quiet. No kids or pets allowed (sorry Stella). I will definitely stay there again!

I love sharing my birthday with my mom. Or should I say, I love that she shares her birthday with me? It makes for a very special day and this year Renee got us a very special gift. She named binary stars after us. Binary stars orbit each other. So, from now to forever, in the Virgo constellation, the Donna Kay and Emily Michelle stars will orbit each other! Too cool!

Best Birthday EVER!

Las Vegas
August 26-31, 2008
Palazzo Hotel

Here is the video as promised. It is 100% "stop motion." Which means it was made from photos, about 600 photos to be exact! So this "video" isn't actually a video at all!
Music: DANCE by Justice
ENJOY!
(and don't expand the screen, it gets too pixelated)

Abe and I spent the week in one of our favorite vacation destinations, LAS VEGAS!

We stayed at our new favorite hotel, The Palazzo. (This was the 3rd time this year that we stayed here.) We dined at our favorite restaurants, laid by the pool, celebrated my birthday every night, bet big bucks on 22 and 27 (our favorite numbers) and we both came home with more money than we left with! It was an amazing trip.

Tuesday, 8-26-08 Checked in, relaxed.

The last photo of me as a 27 year old! 11:58pm

Wednesday, 8-27-08 Birthday, Pool, Cut.

The first photo of me as a 28 year old!

Pool tradeshow, BetaUnit booth

After returning from a long day, I was surprised to find a dozen gorgeous roses in our room! Along with the loveliest card of all time.
That night Abe surprised me with dinner at CUT in a big private booth. And for dessert....DIAMONDS! He surprised me again, with beautiful diamond earrings! And guess what? I didn't have my camera!! Of all nights, I didn't bring my camera!

Thursday, 8-28-08 Gamble, Tao, Le Reve.

For the rest of the week, we celebrated my birthday every night!

Tao, our fav!

Le Reve, beautiful show!

Le Reve

Friday, 8-29-08 Pool, Gamble, SushiSamba, Gamble, Aqua Knox, Gamble.

SushiSamba. We have enjoyed SushiSamba in Miami and Chicago. So we were excited to see that one opened in the Palazzo!

This is the delicious Kobe Slider.

Aqua Knox, another amazing birthday dinner!

Saturday 8-30-08 Gamble, Pool, Rosemary's.

My parents recommended Rosemary's for a nice dinner. And they were right, it was wonderful! It is off the strip, but worth the trip (ha ha, I rhymed)

Making a wish!

Sunday 8-31-08 Dance, Pack, Gamble, Fly.

Time to go :(

Bye-Bye Vegas

Reading Save Karyn, great book!

Hello San Diego!

I love flying into San Diego. It's the best place in the world to come home to.

These photos kinda make it look like all we did was eat for a week. Which is not true. We actually spent a lot of time in the casino, but as you know, they don't allow photography in casinos...and I don't like to break rules :D So that is why all of out pics are at restaurants. Oh, and Abe made a great video of our trip too. I'll post it as soom as it's done.

Like I said before, Best Birthday EVER!

Thanks Love, I love You!!!

Too Busy to Blog :(

I am in the middle of a whirlwind and I'm too busy doing real work (after being on vacation for a week) to Blog. It makes me sad.

I love blogging (that makes me think about the one commercial...The one where the guy says "lets go back to my place." and the girl is offended and then he say something like "....to blog about our ideas..." and she says "I love blogging!")

And I have soooo much to blog about. My birthday, Vegas, the beach house, Save Karyn and The Secret....you will soon be in for a blog-o-rama treat! I promise.
