Good Bye 2008

Dear 2008,

You were a GREAT year! You provided me so many wonderful adventures and opportunities. I truly believe that I lived you to the fullest and I hope to do the same in 2009.

Oh 2008, don't be jealous...you will be almost impossible to beat. You gave me Telluride, Chicago, OPRAH, Breckenridge, Las Vegas, DIAMONDS, a Mexican Riviera Cruise, Hermes and a new amazing house. Not to mention the important stuff like good health, happiness, love and success for pretty much everyone close to me.

2008 you rocked!

Love You Forever,
Emily

Merry Christmas

Photo borrowed from Madam Lamb.

This is the time of year that I usually go overboard. I spend too much money buying people things they don't need just to make myself feel like I have something to give. I have come to realize that it's not the things that matter, it's the people. I know this because there isn't a thing in the world I want or need. I only want to be with my family and friends. So, if you are a person in my life, I hope you know that you are a part of my life for a reason. That reason is because I want you in my life (and I'm selective so be flattered).

Your love and friendship is better than any gift...spend time, not money!

Thank you for being my friend, I love you.
Wishing you and yours a Happy Holiday!

Happy Holidays?

I'm having a hard time getting into the holiday spirit.

Maybe it's all the holiday parties I had to plan, attend and clean up after. Maybe it's the depressing economic situation of the country...and the world. Maybe it's because we don't have a Christmas Tree....who knows.

However, I found something that catapulted me right into the holidays! Pictures from a strangers ugly sweater party! When I saw these photos I thought...."I want to be friends with these people!"

Separated at birth?

Many people have told me I look like Sara Bareilles.
I can see similarities from certain angles.
What do you think?

Blog Stealer

I stole this post, verbatim from Lindsay.

Lindsay writes:
I was able to get together with my BF's from home, Emily and Melissa. It's always so wonderful to see them, if only for a few hours. We celebrated Melissa's engagement, Em's new home and me just being there! Miss you girls!
~I thought it was interesting that our initials spelt ELM...Elm wood is valued for its interlocking grain, and consequent resistance to splitting...we have been friends for over 17 years now, so I guess we are like an Elm!

Huh- isn't that interesting! We are like Elm. And 17 years of friendship...that means we met when we were 4 years old! (wink)

A plane crashed outside my window.

While I was at work today something terrible happened. A jet crashed into a house just a couple miles away. It's been all over the news. My office is actually closer than from where this photo was taken.

SAN DIEGO -- An FA-18 Hornet fighter jet crashed in a University City neighborhood near I-805 and Genessee shortly before noon Monday, destroying two homes in a blaze that sent a thick black plume of smoke into the sky. The pilot was able to eject from the aircraft before the crash and has been transported to a local hospital in "mild" condition.

Maurice Luque of the San Diego Fire Department has confirmed that there are two people who died in the crash in the 4400 block of Cathers.

Moved In, Not Quite Unpacked

Moving is exhausting.

Even when you hire movers, moving is exhausting.

There is so much that has to be taken care of; cleaning, packing, unpacking, cleaning again, lifting, shifting, rearranging, cleaning more....

OBAMA!

Shortly after it was announced, that Barack Obama was voted President Elect, I was driving home from the gym. I witnessed celebrations in the streets and it moved me to tears. People, random people, were honking their horns, people on the street cheering, clapping and pumping their fists into the air overcome by joy. It gave me goosebumps and made me cry with tears of happiness to see the HOPE and happiness on peoples faces. We need this. We need him.

The Woods

October 12, 2008

A few Sunday's ago I went up to Corona to spend time with my good friend Jane and her precious family. Her daughter, Danica, will be 2 in January and Eric, her husband, is the sweetest, most genuine person you could meet. We hung out, caught up, had turkey sandwiches and played at the park. A perfect Sunday.

Background: Jane and I met 10 years ago when I worked at the Guess store at South Coast Plaza, she was my manager. We had so much fun together. We used to go to the gym and take the TKB class and the yoga class. Jane and I took a couple of road trips, too. We went to the Grand Canyon and Meteor Crater. And when I was like 19, Jane took me to Las Vegas to see Powerman 5000 at the House of Blues. Jane's rad, I love her!

MEXICO

Mexican Riviera Cruise
Sapphire Princess
September 27-October 4

Our vacation festivities got off to a rough start. Friday, 9/26, I was home packing for a much needed vacation. Abe and Ricky were out riding their bikes with Critical Mass. I had a bad feeling. I knew the call would come...and it did. Abe fell.

We spent most of the night in the ER. He was thrown from his bike and landed on his hands. He had a hairline fracture in the neck of his radius, very close to the elbow. Abe said it felt like his elbow exploded. He was in so much pain, it was hard to see him like that. Did I mention he wasn't wearing a helmet? Or that this was at 9:30PM? Or that he was in a busy intersection? When I think about all these things, and all the horrible possibilities I can't help but think "A fractured elbow is the best outcome!" It could have been SO MUCH WORSE.

Despite the minor bump in the road, we set sail for the Mexican Riviera on Saturday 9/27. We were lucky enough to travel with Abe's parents, their best friends and Ricky and Renee. The eight of us had a fantastic trip!

The mandatory safety drill.
