Bennigan's, Steak & Ale file for bankruptcy

Bennigan's, Steak & Ale file for bankruptcy.

Recession.
The economy is not doing so good. All Bennigan's and Steak & Ale locations are closing, like today. I have to admit, I've only been to Bennigans once and it wasn't very good. But having to file for bankruptcy and close all 800 restaurants...Yikes.

Grand Ole Party

Last Saturday, Abe, Patrick and I went to the Casbah for the Kill Me Tomorrow and Grand Ole Party show.

Kill Me Tomorrow is Abe's favorite San Diego band, we have seen them countless times. I have only seen Grand Ole Party twice, but I LOVE them! I first saw them at the Beauty Bar on New Years Eve 2006. Then for the second time last weekend.
Kill Me Tomorrow

Grand Ole Party

Grand Ole Party is a trio from San Diego consisting of singer-drummer Kristin Gundred, guitarist John Paul Labno, and bassist Michael Krechnyak.

We bought the CD and Kristin signed it! Our friend, neighbor and fellow artist Kelsey Brooks illustrated the cover.

(anna-ni-us)

Annanias (anna-ni-us) Rose...it sounds like a beautiful exotic flower.

Actually, he is one of my very good friends from college. Annanias was probably the closest witness to me falling in love with Abe. Before Abe and I were together, it was first to Annanias that I confessed my crush. He was always there to listen as I gushed about the latest conversation I had with my future boyfriend.

In addition to being a great listener and advice giver, Annanias is just all around a wonderful person. He always brightens my day. He usually brightens everyone's day who crosses his path.

We met up for dinner at the Linkery last week. It was so good to catch up! And the food was wonderful too. The Linkery is known for their home made sausages. We shared 2 sausages, chicken, swiss and dijon and a Polynesian pork. Both were great. But I have to say, my favorite was their GREEN BEANS! They were D-LISH! oh...excellent carrot cake too :D

iPhone

I know this news is like 2 weeks old, but.....

This is the line of people (men) waiting outside of the Apple store to get their iPhones. I get it, it's a cool phone, Abe wants one. But to spend the day waiting in line....is it worth it? If you have an iPhone, let me know.

Ramona

I told Abe I found our daughter! Her name is Ramona and she has a blogspot, ramonaandfriends.blogspot.com

Hopefully it's not illegal to post pictures of children you don't know on your blog.

I just think that if we had a daughter she would look like Ramona. Ramona is SO cute!

She likes fruit!

She likes ice cream...just like us!

She likes to hang out.

Comic Con 7/24-7/27

Disneyland!

Disneyland and California Adventure
Grand Californian Resort
July 5-7

Ever since the Grand Californian Resort opened, we set our sights on staying there. If you don't know, it is literally in the California Adventure Theme Park. So awesome! The only problem is that it is too awesome and it's ALWAYS booked! This time, we planned months in advance and managed to get a room with a theme park view.

We left San Diego around 11am on Saturday (7/5), dropped Stella at grandma's (aka: my moms house) and we were on the Hollywood Tower ride by 2pm! California Adventure (CA) is so fun and it's never as crowded as Disneyland. Our room came with a 3-day park-hopper ticket. We were able to navigate away from the summertime crowds (which weren't even that bad) by going back and forth between CA, Disneyland, Downtown Disney and our room. We checked out Monday at noon and headed back to SD. It was such a great weekend. I could have stayed for a couple more days :D

California Adventure Favorites:
Soarin' Over California
Hollywood Tower
California Screamin'
The Art Studio (we took 3 art classes and learned how to draw Mickey, Daisy Duck and Goofy)
The Karl Strauss Beer cart (yum)

Disneyland Favorites:
Dole Whips cart (frozen whipped pineapple, yummy)
Pirates of the Caribbean
Haunted Mansion
Buzz Lightyear
Welcome to Disneyland!
No, Disneyland didn't get bombed. That was a massive firework.
The view from our room.
A=Awesome

Yeah, I didn't buy the picture. I took a picture of the picture.

Kalmia House

It has been two wonderful years that Abe and I have been living in the house on Kalmia Street.

We found it on a whim. We were driving through South Park looking for a place to rent. We stopped at a stop sign, I looked to the right, and there was a "For Rent" sign in front of this beautiful house camouflaged by luscious landscaping. At that moment, I called the number and the rest is history. We moved in on July 1, 2006.

The house is in the Historic Burlingame District. I believe it is San Diego's oldest neighborhood. I don't know what year it was built, probably the 1940's. It is a traditional craftsman and has been maintained very well. The backyard is our favorite part, to be more specific, the fruit trees in the backyard are our favorite part. We have tons of fruit trees! Orange, lemon, lime, fig, guava, grapefruit, clementine and this weird Mexican custard fruit (I don't know what it's called). What's the down side of that much fruit in your yard? Animals! We get raccoons, possums, skunks and even rats that come and visit us to snack in our yard.

Isn't it gorgeous!

From the drive way. The landscaping is so thick you can't even see the house.
The view into the backyard from the master bathroom. I love this view! I get see this every morning.
The backyard. Those are some of Abe's silk screens on the left.
Stella loves it too!

I remember being wary of moving in together. I had never lived with a boyfriend before. You never know, moving in together can make you or break you as a couple. For us, it has only made us stronger. We only have a few more months in this house, but I'll post more about that another time.

Follow The Sun Tour

If you happen to be in the Virgin Islands this summer...
my friend Lindsay Brockington is having a Summer tour.

Background: Lindsay is from the Upper West Side of Manhattan. We met in 2000 while living on St. Thomas and going to school at UVI (University of the Virgin Islands). She is insanely ambitious, full of life and energy and very talented. I always say that my ultimate purpose for moving to St. Thomas was to meet her. She has inspired my life in many ways. Oh, and she is Stella's Godmother too!

I wish I could go to one of her shows this summer!

Speak Spanish in Baja

Check out this spanish class in Ensenada. I totally want to do this!

Ensenada, Mexico
Speak Spanish in Baja

Get beyond your Mexican-restaurant-level Spanish without going back to school by spending a week at the Baja California Language College in Ensenada, Mexico, where there are no exams or grades. Thursday afternoons are set aside for excursions to a winery or a local taqueria to learn the difference between salsa verde and pico de gallo -- en espaƱol, of course.
Play hooky: Afternoons and evenings, you're free to surf, explore the area's burgeoning wine region or practice your language skills at the harbor's fish market as you search for the perfect tacos de pescado.
Info: Year-round; $279 for weeklong classes in which you log 30 hours; 877/444-2252. -David Lansing

Howdy Neighbor!

Locks Of Love

September 2005

All this talk about cutting my hair got me thinking about the time when I REALLY cut my hair! In September 2005, I chopped off 12 inches to donate to Locks Of Love.
BEFORE

AFTER

The short hair never looked this good again. I just had no idea how to style it. And my hair is naturally wavy so it was always getting big and pouffy. It look 15 months to grow past my shoulders.

Haircut

After months of avoiding scissors, I finally got my hair cut (more like trimmed) this week.

I tried a new place, Travis Parker, in La Jolla. Cheng did my hair and I LOVE it! I told her I loved my length, but I needed to take a couple inches off and shape up my long layers. My color had been suffering too. I made the mistake of getting highlights earlier this year, I really hated it on me. Cheng did a 2-step color, trimmed up my layers and provided fun genuine conversation.
BEFORE See the brassiness of the highlights showing through?

AFTER
I love the dark color and shape of the layers!
Oh, she did a conditioning treatment too! Thats why it's so shiny!

Yay, It's the NEW Emily :D
